A Brief History of the White Birch Organization:

White Birch Traditional Martial Arts was founded by Si Fu Robert LaPointe, a student of Tien Shan Pai Kung Fu and Yang Tai Chi instructor Liu, Chao Chi. In 1989, Si Fu LaPointe opened the first White Birch school in Arlington, VA. Over the last decade, the organization grew to encompass 5 locations; the first of those opened in Sterling, VA in 1996.

Sterling, VA School History:

Our school opened in 1996 under the instruction of Si Fu Sean Kans, whom offered courses in Tien Shan Pai Kung Fu and Yang Tai Chi Chuan. Si Fu Kans and his family moved from the area in 2002. The same year Si Fu Lacy Colley, the senior student and assistant instructor to Si Fu Kans, purchased the business and took over head instruction duties at the Sterling, VA White Birch school. Since then, Si Fu Colley has continued to train and work tirelessly at providing an enriching, authentic martial arts experience to his students.

In 2004, Si Fu Colley met Lao Shi George Wood, the founder of Zong Wu Men Internal Fighting Arts. After having Lao Shi Wood in as a guest instructor on several occassions, Si Fu Colley was proud to establish a partnership with him in 2006. Lao Shi Wood began teaching regular classes at our school in the renowned internal martial arts of Baguazhang and Xingyiquan later that year.

In addition to the established Kung Fu and Tai Chi curriculum, the Bagua and Xingyi training now available provides our students a range of training options not often available in the same school. For this and many other reasons, our students continue to enjoy some of the highest-quality instruction available in an environment that is increasingly hard to find in the martial arts community.
